Kosan-ji, Kyoto-Saint Myoe and the Temple's Cultural Properties

Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art
Finished
In Kyoto's Kosan-ji Temple, numerous cultural assets associated with the founder and reviver Myoe Shonin (1173-1232) have been handed down. These include over 12,000 historical documents, a diverse range of paintings centered around Buddhist art, sculptures crafted by skilled artisans, and crafts and architecture evoking the era when Myoe lived, all boasting remarkable quality and quantity.

This exhibition, while tracing Myoe's life and teachings, introduces many precious cultural assets of Kosan-ji Temple, including the most beloved national treasure "Chojugiga" (Scrolls of Frolicking Animals), and delves into the true nature of Kosan-ji Temple, a rare temple that has preserved these traditions.
