One Hundred Scenes of Animals: From the Collection of the Edo Tokyo Museum

Tokyo Station Gallery
FinishedDiscount
Approximately 420 years since the founding of the Edo Shogunate. Edo developed into a massive metropolis, becoming one of the three major cities alongside Kyoto and Osaka. How did people living in the megacity of Edo/Tokyo interact with animals? This exhibition introduces approximately 240 pieces of art and craftwork selected from the collection of the Edo Tokyo Museum to tell that story (exhibits may change during the exhibition).

This exhibition, expanded from the "Living Beings: Life with Animals in Edo Tokyo" exhibition that received acclaim at the Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris (France) in 2022, is a triumphant return. Enjoy the diverse representations of animals appearing in picture scrolls, woodblock prints, decorative items, and folk toys.

First Period: April 27th to May 26th
Second Period: May 28th to June 23rd
*Exhibits will be changed between the first and second periods.
