Pola Museum of Art opened in September 2002. Its collection was amassed by the second-generation founder of Pola, Tsuneshi Suzuki (1930-2000), over a period of about 40 years after World War II. The museum has held various special exhibitions based on this collection.
On the occasion of the museum's 10th anniversary in 2012, it expanded its activities to include the development and opening of a forest trail, the installation of outdoor sculptures, the opening of a contemporary art gallery, the holding of hands-on exhibitions, and the implementation of learning programs. In recent years, the museum has been expanding its activities to include more and more people. In addition to its existing collection, it has been collecting important works to trace the development of art from the 20th century to the present day. This exhibition will be the first opportunity to introduce both Suzuki's collection and the new works acquired in recent years.
In planning this exhibition, the main theme was "light." Impressionist painters such as Claude Monet pursued the expression of light, while the works of contemporary artists such as Gerhard Richter and Kerith Wyn Evans have also reveal a strong interest in it. This exhibition introduces the "present" of the Pola Museum of Art's collection and explores the future of the museum and the potential of the collection.
