Pola Museum of Art

In 2002, the Pola Museum of Art was established in Hakone, Kanagawa. Since its opening, the Pola Museum of Art has been based on the concept of "symbiosis between the nature of Hakone and art”. In consideration of the nature and landscape of Hakone, the building is kept at a height of 8 meters above the ground and much of the building is underground so that it seems to blend in with the forest. The exhibition rooms are equipped with uniquely developed lighting to allow visitors to appreciate the individual works of art. The late Tsuneji Suzuki, the second generation of Pola's founding family, collected a collection of approximately 10,000 pieces over a period of more than 40 years. The collection encompasses a wide range of items, including Western paintings, Japanese Western paintings, Japanese paintings, prints, Oriental ceramics, glass art, and cosmetic tools from all over the world. Excellent artwork, rich nature, and light-filled architectural spaces... The philosophy of "symbiosis" is alive and well in every aspect of the museum.
