Artists

Edward Gorey
Edward Gorey (1925-2000) is a picture book artist with a mysterious worldview and monotone, detailed line drawings that have earned him an enthusiastic following around the world. In recent years, his picture books such as “The Doubtful Guest” and “The Hapless Child” have been introduced in Japan one after another. In addition to his so-called Primary Books, in which he created both text and illustrations, Gorey also demonstrated his diverse talents in illustration, stage and costume design, and theatrical and ballet posters.

This exhibition reconstructs a collection of approximately 250 works from the exhibitions held at The Edward Gorey House, a memorial museum established in the artist’s final residence, based on themes such as “Children,” “Mysterious Creatures,” and “Performing Arts.
