Edward Gorey
With a mysterious worldview and intricate monochromatic line drawings, Edward Gorey (1925-2000), a picture book author, has enthusiastic fans worldwide. In recent years, picture books such as "The Gashlycrumb Tinies" and "The Hapless Child" have been introduced one after another in Japan.

Gorey, in addition to his primary works where he handled both text and illustrations, showcased a versatile talent in various areas, including illustrations, designing for stage and costumes, and creating posters for theater and ballet.

This exhibition reconstructs approximately 200 pieces from themed exhibitions held at the Gorey House, a memorial museum established in the author's final residence. The themes include "children," "mysterious creatures," and "performing arts."

As if embarking on a journey to an old mansion on the East Coast peninsula of the United States, enjoy encountering enigmatic works with a wise and cool perspective on life and death.
