Atsuko Susuki's work evokes the boundary between inside and outside where traces of his own experiences and memories intersect with the outside world and the questions and fluctuations that arise from this. "Appear" means "to appear" or "what is inside appears outside," and this work is composed of photographs selected from his previous shoots. Susuki says of his photographs, "Rather than taking a photograph, it's like being there..." and "It's like receiving the experience that was there, transforming it into something else, and returning it to my memory...". Experiences are layers of mind and body that people accumulate as they live, and looking at the current world through the faint traces that remain on these layers and bodies is an important element at the origin of Susuki's work. The images that emerge from his attempt to look at the objects that are (or may have been) in front of him, be influenced by them, and express them in photographs question not only the essence of perception, but also the origins of things that cannot be easily replaced by words, and question their preciousness.
