haku kyoto is pleased to present “A feeling,” an exhibition by photographer Osamu Yokonami. Yokonami is active in advertising photography in Japan and abroad, but is also energetic in his personal work. In this exhibition, Yokonami will present works that capture trivial moments hidden in everyday life and the fragility of commonplace existence. Yokonami says that there are moments when a familiar presence seems somehow distant. It is a sensation of something that begins to fray and lacks in the natural course of daily life, a fleeting presence that is usually unnoticed. He says, “I release the shutter when I feel something is unsettled." This moment is born from an honest impulse, attracted by the transience, and the act of continuing to capture the moment before it is forgotten. The title of this exhibition, “A feeling” means a thread of emotion or thought that sways in the depths of the heart. Photographs reflect sensations and time that cannot be captured in words, and will bring a quiet buzzing to the viewer's heart. Yokonami's work encourages viewers to become aware of special moments hidden in everyday life, and suggests to us.
