Yang02 works with various contemporary technologies, sometimes misusing them, and posing ontological questions about the relationship between humans and technology.
In his recent work "Image for Degrowth" (2021), Yang02 attempts to reconcile himself with the technology of his time, which has been consumed by humans as if it were to be thrown away and creates a work that is a self-critique of his own work. Also, "Roppongi Crossing 2022: Come and Go Alone!" (2022), which was held at the Mori Art Museum, took a scalpel to the often overlooked and difficult-to-see areas of society, such as logistics and transportation, and developed a theatrical performance of a transportation robot silently moving and displaying objects and works of art.
Yantu, who has always been in close contact with technology, has always been shaken by it without considering it obvious, and this time his focus is on "power generation. Electricity, the lifeline of human life since the modern age, has been produced in various ways, starting from the discovery of static electricity to today's thermal power generation, nuclear power generation, and other large-capacity power generation.
Yantu's main goal is not to create gravity power generation as an ecological solution or as a new method of power generation in capitalist rationality. This is also reflected in the title of this exhibition, TEFCO (Tokyo Electricity Farming COmmunity), which was coined by the artist. The idea is to open up another path of perception through "cultivating" electricity with one's own hands, rather than recognizing it as something that is subscribed to from some distant production site. Gravity power generation is a thought device for this purpose.
During the exhibition, electricity will be harvested into lithium and lead-acid batteries every day using this gravity generator.
