Kiyomi Irie
FUJI GALLERY SHINJUKU, situated on the B1 floor of Hilton Tokyo in Nishi-Shinjuku, is delighted to announce Kiyomi IRIE’s solo exhibition "In for a Penny, In for a Pound," running from 19 April (Saturday) to 31 May (Saturday), 2025. Kiyomi IRIE is an artist renowned for her distinctive abstract paintings. She applies plaster to panels or canvases, creating a richly textured surface reminiscent of ceramics. This technique is especially striking when employing panels as support, enhancing the depth and presence of her works. IRIE’s creative exploration extends beyond painting; she works with clay, producing ceramic pieces. Her two- or three-dimensional works fuse raw, primal energy with refined elegance, attracting art collectors, architects, and interior designers.
According to the artist, her works, characterized by bold compositions, profound colors, and layered textures, are born from sudden bursts of inspiration—like revelations from the heavens. The exhibition title, carefully chosen by the artist herself, perfectly encapsulates the essence of her creative process.
This exhibition will feature diverse works, including paintings, drawings, ceramics, and leather-based pieces. It represents the artist’s ultimate culmination at this moment in time, forged through an ongoing struggle with the anxieties and conflicts accompanying the act of creation.
