Take Ninagawa is pleased to present “BLUMEN,” the first group show curated by artist Andro Wekua in Japan.

Born in 1977 in Sukhumi, Georgia, and now based in Berlin, Wekua is known for making paintings, sculptures, and films that engage with memories of his lost homeland through eerie figures and animal forms, creating enigmatic images that transcend time and place. His works also incorporate the dynamics of the exhibition space to heighten the emotional responses viewers receive from them.

Inspired by Wekua’s recent works featuring flowers, this exhibition presents paintings and sculptural works by thirteen international artists: Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili, Nobuyoshi Araki, Elene Chantladze, Carole Gibbons, Pati Hill, Zenzaburo Kojima, Shiro Kuramata, Marisa Merz, Shinro Ohtake, Sofu Teshigahara, Yoichi Umetsu, Andro Wekua and Gozo Yoshimasu.
