"Adornments of Excitement: The Craftsmanship and Beauty of Fashion Accessories"

Hosomi Museum
Finished
Born in Kyoto's Gion district, Tomoyo Okazaki (1924-1999) became a geisha and later flourished as the proprietress of a traditional Japanese restaurant in Tokyo. Over 40 years, she amassed a collection of over 3,000 hair ornaments, primarily combs and hairpins. Based on her collection, in 1998, the Honorary Chairman of Ozawa Sake Brewing Co., Ltd., Kosaburo Ozawa, renowned for the brand "Sawanoya," established the Kushi-Kanzashi Museum in Ome, Tokyo.

This exhibition features carefully selected pieces from Okazaki's collection, curated with her discerning aesthetic sensibility. In addition to combs and hairpins, the exhibition showcases various hairstyles (known as "mamekatsura") from the Edo period, makeup pouches ("hakosako"), lipstick palettes ("benibuta"), kimonos, and even men's accessories such as portable writing utensils ("yadate") and medicine cases ("inro"). These pieces epitomize the refined craftsmanship and sophistication of Japanese traditional arts.

Experience the essence of the Kushi-Kanzashi Museum, which continues to captivate viewers with the same passion that drove Tomoyo Okazaki's collection efforts, preserving her legacy and delivering enchantment to all who behold it.
