Meiji Jingu Museum
Finished
In 2024, which marks the 110th anniversary of Empress Shoken and the 150th anniversary of the founding of Kasumigaseki Hall, a commemorative exhibition with the theme "Dresses of the Meiji Era" will be held at Meiji Shrine and Kasumigaseki Hall.

The exhibition will be divided into two periods. In the first period, including April 11th, the anniversary of Empress Shoken, Meiji Shrine will conduct an exhibition focusing on the attire of Empress Shoken. Especially, the grand ceremonial dress of Empress Shoken owned by Daishoji Temple (Kyoto) has recently undergone a large-scale restoration project, with the participation of Meiji Shrine, and after the completion of the basic restoration necessary for long-term preservation in 2023, this exhibition will be its first public showing in Tokyo. The exhibition will introduce not only the grand ceremonial dress representing the Western-style attire of Meiji that has been passed down to the present day but also the attire worn by Empress Shoken in important ceremonies before the introduction of Western clothing to the Imperial Court, such as the traditional ceremonial robe called "junihitoe."

In the second period, including June 1st, the 150th anniversary of the founding of Kasumigaseki Hall, Kasumigaseki Hall, which originated from the former Kazoku Kaikan established under the direction of Emperor Meiji, will organize the exhibition. Exhibits will include items received from Emperor Meiji, gifts presented during visits to the Kazoku Kaikan, and dresses donated by the former imperial household of the Kitashirakawa family.

[Second Period] Emperor Meiji and the Kazoku Kaikan: May 25th (Sat) - June 30th (Sun)
