This exhibition featuring Nami Yokoyama is the fourth installment of Nanjo Selection, an exhibition series by Fumio Nanjo.
Yokoyama has won acclaim for painting series such as “The First Object,” in which she shines a light on objects that are consumed and discarded, portraying them with great precision, and “Neon,” in which neon tubes of her design are depicted by including the wiring and frame behind them as well as the glass tubing itself. In recent years, she has held solo exhibitions at venues including Kenji Taki Gallery (most recently in 2024 and 2023), the Museum of Fine Arts, Gifu (2021), and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (2019), and participated in group exhibitions such as “VOCA 2023” (Ueno Royal Museum) and “Roppongi Crossing 2022: Coming & Going” (Mori Art Museum).
This exhibition will highlight around 10 new paintings, all featuring the word “Sky,” from the “Shape of Your Words” series, in which the artist painstakingly transforms words written by friends, acquaintances, and other collaborators into neon signs.
