Chris Johanson, Johanna Jackson
This will be Chris Johanson's first solo exhibition at the gallery and his debut solo show in Japan. Additionally, a two-person exhibition featuring Johanson and his partner Johanna Jackson, titled "Sky In The Pot, Pot In The Sky, Unanswered Questions, Why Why Why?" will be held at 3110NZ by LDH kitchen.

Chris Johanson, born in 1968 in San Jose, California, and now based in Los Angeles, is known for his involvement in the Mission School movement in San Francisco during the 1990s. This movement, which included artists like Barry McGee and Ruby Neri, shared a focus on street culture and folk art. Johanson's work has been widely recognized, with notable exhibitions including "Since 2000: Printmaking Now" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and "Within The River of Time Is My Mind" at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.

Johanson's work invites contemplation of fundamental themes such as the nature of simplicity, the primitive, human endeavors, connection, emotion, memory, and life itself. His creative process, characterized by repetitive practices, results in unique and profound artworks.

For this exhibition, Johanson will present works created in collaboration with students from a school where a friend teaches. These pieces include artworks painted on recycled skateboard ramp boards, reflecting Johanson's emphasis on the narratives and relationships behind objects. The exhibition also explores the relationship between unconscious sensation and spontaneous thought. Johanson's paintings on recycled fabric, featuring vivid, flowing colors and abstract forms, reflect the aesthetics of change born from nature's randomness and human uncertainty.

The exhibition, conceived as an installation, will feature a series of works created over several months. "Navigation" will depict a canoeist as the protagonist, using the canoe, sea, people, and environment to eloquently express the fragility, preciousness, and mystery of human life. Additionally, Johanson's partner Johanna Jackson has created a table and textiles combining wood and ceramics, which will complement the installation.

At 3110NZ by LDH kitchen, a focused two-person exhibition will showcase Johanna Jackson's ceramic works, including pots, cups, sculptures, and palm-sized insects, centered on the theme of "Individual Collective Document of Living." These works will resonate with Johanson's colorful paintings and drawings, creating an organic synthesis of their creative efforts.

Chris Johanson will visit Japan for this exhibition, and an opening reception will be held on September 13 (Friday) from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Nanzuka Underground.
