Alfons Mucha: Multitalented Artist

Museum “Eki” Kyoto
Finished

Artists

Alfons Mucha
Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), one of the most famous Art Nouveau painters, is best known for his numerous posters, including Sarah Bernhardt's theater poster "Gismonda," but he worked in a very wide range of genres.

Mucha's graphic and product designs, which combine the graceful female figures and flowers characteristic of his work, have a different appeal from his paintings. This exhibition draws on the collection of Czech resident Zdenek Cimar to explore Mucha as a multi-artist, focusing particularly on his design work in the context of Mucha's art, which symbolizes the Belle Epoque era.
