Artists

Alfons Mucha
Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939), the prominent artist of Art Nouveau, is well-known for his captivating and confident depictions of women in numerous posters, such as the theater poster for Sarah Bernhardt's play "Gismonda." However, his actual range of genres was quite diverse. This exhibition focuses on his design work, showcasing Mucha's pioneering role as a multi-artist.

From the collection of Dr. Zdeněk Chlumský in the Czech Republic, the exhibition features a wide range of valuable works, including theater posters, illustrations for books, postcards, packaging for sweets and perfumes, jewelry, and various art forms such as oil paintings, watercolors, sketches, and photographs. Together, they provide a comprehensive overview of Mucha's art.

The exhibition includes a total of 169 works, with approximately 90 pieces being publicly displayed in Japan for the first time as part of the Chlumský Collection.
