Wim Wenders, Donata Wenders
Fine photographers are also insightful social critics, keen observers of people and more often than not, visionaries for the coming generation.
This exhibition presents works by two such photographers: Wim Wenders, also known to the world as a filmmaking maestro, and his longtime partner Donata Wenders, a distinguished photo artist. In the fall of 2005, they traveled together in Japan on their own. Presented in the gallery space is the record of their journey of discovery.
Wim burns onto film his thoughts inspired by the socio-natural landscapes of the places, and Donata captures the subtleties of human emotion breathing in and out in the local culture. The gentle, caring gaze of these two travelers - having been to various places and communities around the world over the years - here reveals an image of Japan, on which the current condition of the country and the cultural potential of its people are both, subtly or clearly, reflected.
