This exhibition will feature an installation using a large-scale audio system, the first attempt in Yuko Mori's recent "Decomposition" series, in which the artist inserts electrodes into fruit to measure the amount of moisture inside, and converts the changes in resistance caused by drying and rotting into sound. The "Neue Fruchtige Tanzmusik (photo)," a photographic work that captures the process of fruit decomposition, and the "Neue Fruchtige Tanzmusik (vinyl)," a sound reproduction (LP) of the decomposition process recorded through "Decomposition" will also be presented.

Mori has previously presented installations that combine ready-made objects, found objects, and self-made devices to create phenomena that change depending on the exhibition environment and other conditions. The energy generated by the electronic circuits is reflected diffusely through the compositions of the works, conveying to the viewer, through sight, sound, and sometimes touch and smell, fragments of the unpredictable phenomena that occur daily and the latent complexity in the larger world structure.

The "Decomposition" exhibited in this show also translates the minute changes occurring within the fruit into sound, conveying the life of the fruit as it continues to change and form even after its connection to the soil and trunk has been severed. Fruit is one of the main motifs often depicted in Western paintings, and has been given eternal life in paintings. It should also be noted that the artist used the Buddhist painting "Nine Phases," which depicts the gradual decay and transformation of a corpse, as a reference point in the creation of this work. This work is based on the form of expression known as "live electronics" practiced since the 1960s by predecessors such as John Cage and David Tudor, whom Mori admires greatly, but also uses dying organic matter as its medium.
