Washoku: Nature and Culture in Japanese Cuisine

Tsuruoka Art Forum
Finished
In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Tsuruoka's designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, we will hold a special exhibition titled "Washoku: Nature of Japan, Wisdom of People," which will tour nationwide.

"Washoku," registered as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, is attracting increasing attention worldwide. This exhibition will introduce "Washoku" using a variety of ingredients such as vegetables, mushrooms, and fish, through specimen displays and food samples.

Additionally, alongside video exhibitions, Tsuruoka Art Forum will provide a multifaceted perspective, including science and history, to explore the diverse ingredients brought by Japan's natural landscapes. The exhibition will also delve into the rich food culture of Japan, including the history of fermentation and dashi that people have developed through ingenuity, from historical transitions to the future.
