Princess Chiyo (1637-98) was born at Edo Castle as the first child of the third shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu, and was a born shogun princess. She married Mitsutomo, the second head of the Owari Tokugawa family, at the age of only 2 years and 6 months, in order to secure a successor to Iemitsu, who was initially blessed with no sons. She was the sister of two successive shoguns, Ietsuna and Tsunayoshi, and her life is summed up in one word: "magnificent. {The life of Princess Chiyohime, who acted as a bridge between the shogunate and the shoguns and laid the foundation for the prosperity of the Owari Tokugawa family, is recounted here.
