National Treasure The Hatsune Furnishings

The Tokugawa Art Museum
Starts 4/12
The National Treasure, "Hatsune no Choten". It is a world-class, timeless masterpiece that shines brightly among the Tokugawa Art Museum's collection of more than 10,000 items. The National Treasure "Hatsune no utensil" was commissioned in 1639 as wedding furnishings for Princess Chiyo, the eldest daughter of the third shogun Iemitsu, when she married Mitsutomo, the second head of the Owari Tokugawa family. Overcoming the danger of being lost, a total of 70 pieces have been handed down in one piece, making this a masterpiece of maki-e lacquerware representative of the Edo period. This exhibition presents the entire set of the National Treasure "Hatsune no Choten," an exquisite and gorgeous gold-embellished daimyo's wedding furnishings.
