Takahiro Tsuzuki
Takahiro Tsuzuki, born in Saitama Prefecture in 1988, creates works using structural plywood, an indispensable building material for residential construction. He uses general structural plywood (larch), which is made by peeling logs and laminating them together; OSB plywood, which is processed from environmentally friendly wood chips and has a distinctive appearance; and printed plywood, which reproduces wood grain and patterns and is laminated with decorative sheets and used for ceilings, flooring, and other interior applications.

The unique wood chip pattern of OSB is represented by the wind, and the repetition of the wood grain that appears when the wood is peeled is compared to the cloud and “suyarimasumi" of Yamato-e. The UV printing and laser processing used in acrylic processing are applied, and sometimes collages of flyers from mass retailers are used.

In this exhibition, Tsuzuki expresses the scenery of far suburbs and satoyama, which is an extension of his "Plywood City Series," in which the relationship between the mass-produced city and nature is superimposed on plywood, a controlled and processed natural object, and "Suburbs and Beyond," in which he has continued this series.

In addition to his new works, Tsuzuki's representative works such as "New Scenes in and Around Kyoto", winner of the Tokyo Midtown Award 2021 Excellence Prize and Audience Award, and "OSB-Mori - Wind", exhibited at VOCA Exhibition 2023 (The Ueno Royal Museum) will also be on display.
