Artists

Shunsuke Imai
Shunsuke Imai's works, with their striking stripes of shimmering bright colors, originated from his experience of being deeply moved by the beauty of shimmering patterns, such as those of a swaying skirt, and he has consistently drawn this series of works ever since. Vividly colored stripes and dots on a flat surface flutter and overlap each other, creating a three-dimensional effect that has a striking impact on the viewer. The paintings are created with such skillful technique that they are not recognizable at first glance as having been painted with a brush and are the result of repeated consideration of color, form, and space with a minimum of elements.

In addition to solo exhibitions in Japan and abroad, Imai has participated in numerous group exhibitions that originated in painting. In 2022, he will hold his first solo exhibition in a museum at the Marugame Genichiro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art.

This exhibition will be held in conjunction with Imai's solo exhibition at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery starting on April 15 (Sat), with six new edition works and paintings on view for the first time from April 20 (Thu). Imai has been showing mainly paintings on canvas and prints on cloth, but the new edition works, printed on wooden panels, have a different look from his previous works.

By exhibiting the edition works on the first basement floor and the paintings on the first floor, Imai hopes visitors will enjoy the contrast in expression between the hand-painted paintings and digital prints, as he explains.

In conjunction with the exhibition, NADiff has also created original goods perfect for the leisure season. A leisure sheet, a bag, a Frisbee, and a key chain are available.
