My Binta, Your Binta // LOL ~ Roars from the Skinland is the project Contact Gonzo is developing as one of the 2023 CCBT artist fellows, exploring how the skin works from a wide range of perspectives to create a new performance.
In the project, Contact Gonzo, whose unique performance-oriented practice investigates the nature of physical contact and responses generated by instances of contact, has undertaken skin research, with a focus on its function as a sensory organ that is capable of receiving minute amounts of external information, and as an interface that sends out information.
The project seeks to connect these skin functions to a performance in which audiences not only watch the sensations of pain and physical contact felt by the members of Contact Gonzo but also experience (and thus, share) them in a contactless way through their skin.
The performers wear specially produced devices that convert data from physical contact and speed and pressure into electrical signals. This hyper-amplifies the sensations and physical experience that the contact Gonzo members receive and send through their skin. These are then diffused as sound pressure by eight massive woofers in the venue, appealing to audiences not only visually but also physically.
