Artists

Lee Kan Kyo
LEE KAN KYO is a painter who interprets Japanese culture, which he has admired from childhood to adolescence, through his own filter and sublimates it into a unique expression.

LEE paints from his own unique perspective, depicting the unique “otherness” of Japan that we, as Japanese, are rarely aware of, but which is integrated into the everyday life of Japan. For example, he focuses on the overload of information found in supermarket advertising flyers and the consumer behavior of Japanese people who compare prices in detail, and by copying this behavior he believes it is a key to deciphering the structure of Japanese society and an effective means of deepening his own relationship with Japanese society.

LEE was strongly attracted to Japanese TV programs and music broadcast in Taiwan, as well as the unique design and format of Japanese products, and felt that they had a kind of magic to them. In his youth, he spent his days going to CD shops and digging through CDs.

In this exhibition, he will exhibit paintings based on the motif of 8cm CD jackets, as well as works from the heavy metal corner of Tower Records and 12cm CD jackets. In addition, the graphic unit ZONSHANG, which focuses on silkscreen work, will present an edition of multicolor screen prints, a collaboration based on the strips of 8cm CD jackets drawn by LEE.

This exhibition, “The Last CD - Handmade Cultural Heritage Project -” depicts LEE KAN KYO's beloved Japanese music culture from his unique perspective.
Please take this opportunity to view the exhibition.
