Artists

Naoko Machida
Painter and picture book artist Naoko Machida expresses the living space of the story through bold compositions and delicate touches in her picture books, earning high praise. Her motto is "Any opening is a chance for a cat." In various stories, including fairy tales, folklore, and horror picture books, Machida introduces cats as protagonists or sometimes as supporting characters. The depicted cats are intricately portrayed, from fur patterns to gestures and expressions, reflecting Machida's keen observational skills living with cats and her affectionate gaze toward them.

This exhibition introduces approximately 250 original picture book illustrations, including representative works such as "Nameless Cats" and "Cats on Guard," along with production materials, covering Machida's debut to her latest works. Additionally, specially created artwork depicting the venue will be showcased.
