Mie Swords and Their Makers

Mie Prefectural Museum
Finished
Once celebrated as the "soul of the Samurai," swords are revered as sacred objects imbued with divine spirit, much like the "Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi" enshrined at Atsuta Shrine. The exquisite craftspersonship honed by skilled artisans represents a pinnacle of Japanese art and has long supported our traditional culture.

In Mie Prefecture, from the end of the Northern and Southern Dynasties through the Muromachi period, renowned swordsmiths, including Munemasa from Kuwana, produced many exceptional works. This exhibition will highlight swords connected to Mie Prefecture, presenting both their masterpieces and the artisans behind them.
