Kenninji Temple
Finished
The Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art is hosting a special exhibition in collaboration with Canon and the Kyoto Culture Association to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The exhibition will be held at the historic Kenninji Temple in Kyoto. This unique exhibition will feature high-resolution reproductions of significant Japanese artworks from the museum's collection, allowing visitors to appreciate the art without glass cases and in natural light. These reproductions are created through a combination of advanced photography and printing technology, as well as the craftsmanship of traditional artisans who use techniques like applying gold leaf and traditional mounting. Additionally, there will be high-resolution reproductions of Rinpa school masterpieces, including Hokusai. The museum boasts the world's largest collection of Hokusai's hand-painted drawings in this format. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to experience these cultural treasures in a new and immersive way.
