Kenichi Oki
Born in Fukuoka, Kenichi Oki began drawing after being fascinated by the illustrations of Dragon Ball, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump. He started his career as an artist in earnest with his first solo exhibition in 2012. Currently, he is expanding his activities by presenting his works domestically and internationally, collaborating with brands, and operating his store, Okiosk, where he sells his merchandise.

Oki's artistic concept revolves around the belief that "An artist doesn't paint what people demand; an artist paints what they seek." True to these words, Oki's works are created using various mediums such as crayons, colored pencils, acrylic paints, and more recently, spray paint, depending on the expression he seeks at the time.

Reflecting his thought process, Oki's works feature abstract paintings with motifs of people and flowers, and letter works using the "Oki font," where he transforms alphabets into shapes he likes. His work "In This Wilderness of the 21st Century," which encapsulates love and joy in a single flower, is widely recognized as one of Oki's representative series.

Furthermore, Oki consciously incorporates vibrant neon colors into his works. This stems from his childhood preference for vivid colors and his experience with the artist label "Henry&Mathew," consisting of seven artists formed in 2012. "Henry&Mathew" aimed to illuminate places that lacked brightness through art, starting from hospitals, parks, and shopping streets to reviving the neglected Susaki Park in Fukuoka city through the "North Tenjin Picnics" event held annually from 2014 for five years.

Oki has always been close to people and cities as an artist, continuously creating works to brighten their lives even a little, and neon colors truly serve as "lights" illuminating daily life.

This exhibition, titled "This Moment," reflects Oki's dedication to facing the canvas sincerely to paint what he wants to capture at this moment. It showcases a series of works imbued with the "joy" of being able to continue painting and the "determination" to live as an artist in Tokyo after leaving behind the familiar Fukuoka. The dynamic and delicate artworks, coexisting with each other, will undoubtedly deliver messages that add color to the chaotic modern society to the viewers.

Additionally, the exhibition will present collaborations with Zonshang, a graphic unit that interprets the feelings towards mysterious Oriental cultures scattered around the world in a dope manner through sampling and printing.
