Is Writing Art? A Journey through Textual Imagery in Calligraphy, Painting, Printing, and Crafts

Hakodate Museum of Art, Hokkaido
3 more days
This exhibition features works drawn from two categories, “Writing and Symbol-related Art” and “Calligraphy and East Asian Art,” which lie at the heart of the museum’s collection of some 2,000 items. When written characters and words that contain meaning are expressed in art, they are literally imbued with additional meanings. In this exhibition, we explore the meaning of artworks made up of a diverse range of characters while also savoring their charms.
