Beloved Old Noritake

Accessory Museum
Finished
With the popularity of Japonism in the late 19th century, Old Noritake, widely embraced in American life, is known for incorporating rare local trends and demands into its product development at the time. Old Noritake refers to the porcelain produced and exported by Japan Porcelain and Morimura Bros., the predecessors of Noritake Company Limited, until the end of World War II. To quickly reflect American trends in their products, they established a design department in New York, where locally drawn design sketches were faithfully reproduced in Japan's dedicated painting factories.

Costume jewelry, a significant collection in our museum, emerged during the same period of economic prosperity and blossomed in America, representing one of the cultures that flourished contemporaneously, with many reflecting trends of the time. This exhibition will display cultural artifacts such as Old Noritake alongside contemporary magazines and dresses, unraveling the charm of American culture at the time.
