Arpita Akhanda Open Studio『Weaving Water-水を織る』

Since its opening in 2000, Kyoto Art Center has been implementing the “Artist in Residence” program, in which domestic and international artists and researchers stay in Kyoto for a certain period of time to engage in creative activities and exchanges, supporting the activities of emerging and young artists and researchers who wish to pursue creative activities in Kyoto.

This year’s resident artist, Arpita Akanda, will hold an open studio, “Weaving Water.”

“Weaving Water” is a series of works developed during Akhanda’s residency at the Kyoto Art Center, where she explored the intersections of material, memory, and embodied history. The open studio invites viewers into a space where video, paper weaving, and performance converge, guiding them through the evolving narratives of water as a metaphor for transformation and liberation.

Through Akhanda’s practice, Water, as a medium, takes important roles, uniting each of these works. Water’s fluidity and multifaceted nature embody the transitory qualities of time, memory, and identity, acting as both the vessel and the current that connects these disparate narratives.
