Nobutaka Aozaki
Nobutaka Aozaki, a student of the School of Visual Arts and Hunter College, has lived and worked in New York City since 2005. His works are based on subtle everyday communications with the city’s diverse people.

In creating his sculptures, pictures, and installations, Aozaki draws on the remarkableness of his brief interactions with people from different backgrounds, who just so happen who happen to be in the same time and place as he is. Seeing multiple interpretations for the misunderstandings and dilemmas coming from these encounters, he explores possibilities for a renewed sense of identity.

Statements presents Aozaki’s “From Here To There” (2012) reflecting new aspects of a city brimming with human imagination and experience, “Value_Added” (2012) about living in a capitalist economy and its system, a vocabulary booklet made from fortune cookie slips, and new works created while in Tokyo.
