Yumeji Takehisa
A graceful and elegant female figure with a melancholic expression. Delicate young girls and adorable children. These were painted by the renowned artist of the Taisho Romanticism era, Yumeji Takehisa (1884-1934). Yumeji, who became known as the representative of "Yumeji-style beauties" in his beautiful portraits, rose to fame and became the darling of the times. His diverse personality and talent, which extended beyond the world of painting, continue to garner high popularity to this day.

This exhibition, held at the Fukuda Museum in Arashiyama, Kyoto, showcases a collection gathered by Kojiro Kawamura (1901-1994), a businessman from Shimonoseki who had connections with Takehisa during his lifetime. The collection, which has not been publicly displayed on such a large scale for 12 years, focuses on the captivating charm of Takehisa as a "creator," encompassing his masterpieces such as "Twelve Views of Nagasaki," "Ten Themes of Women," "Journey," and "Youthful Chronicles." Additionally, it includes collaborations with music such as the Seno score and Shinpei Nakayama score cover illustrations, as well as his literary works ranging from novels to haiku, showcasing everything about Takehisa.

The exhibition features approximately 200 items, including Takehisa's signature beauty portraits, magazine illustrations, cover designs for sheet music, haiku, lyrics, novels, and other literary-related book designs and illustrations. It also includes printed materials such as Chiyogami, stationery, and envelopes that gained popularity among young women. It's a comprehensive exhibition that encapsulates the charm of Yumeji Takehisa as a creator who demonstrated a diverse range of talents.
