Kumagusu Minakata (1867–1941), who made Tanabe City in Wakayama Prefecture the base of his research and life in his later years, was notable for staying connected to the global flow of intellectual information. Living in the small city of Tanabe on the Kii Peninsula, he engaged with scholars overseas and contributed to scientific journals in London. Rooted in the lives of local people and the natural ecosystem, his approach aimed at a universal understanding of the world, a stance that remains exemplary and widely recognized across various fields in the 21st century.

The Minakata Kumagusu Archives opened on May 14, 2006, to permanently preserve his library and materials left in the Minakata residence, promote research on Kumagusu, and utilize these findings to honor him. The museum carefully preserves its collections while making them widely accessible to the public.

Along with the museum's opening, the Minakata residence was also reopened to the public. The museum provides information and learning opportunities about Kumagusu, while the residence allows visitors to experience the place and space that served as the foundation for his life and research.

Wakayama

Tsushima Museum is a comprehensive museum that covers nature, history, culture, and art. It introduces the history of Tsushima from ancient times to the present, highlighting its active interactions with countries on the Korean Peninsula and mainland Japan through distinctive materials. Additionally, the museum is dedicated to preserving Tsushima's cultural heritage and provides a space to learn about and appreciate Tsushima. It fosters a love for Tsushima and ensures the transmission of its important cultural assets to future generations.

Nagasaki

 The Yao City History and Folklore Museum is a facility dedicated to researching, studying, and preserving cultural assets within Yao City. It also aims to widely share these assets with the public through exhibitions and other activities.

The mansion of the wealthy farmer family Fujii has been restored and opened to the public as an art museum. Situated on approximately 3,000 square meters of land, it features the main house built in 1890, a Western-style building from the Taisho period with reception rooms and a study, a detached guesthouse built in the early Showa period, and warehouses. All structures, walls, and gates are designated as national registered tangible cultural properties and prefectural designated landscape-forming important structures. The buildings reflect the characteristics of each era, showcasing valuable and rare woods and the craftsmanship of skilled carpenters. Hidden rooms can also be explored. Throughout the estate, artworks and folk crafts collected by the museum director, Tatsuo Koyano, are curated and exhibited.

Koyano Museum of Antique annually plans exhibitions focusing on Japanese antique art and folk tools used by common people. The museum features many unique exhibitions not typically seen in conventional art museums, despite its small space, with a large number of exhibits. Past exhibitions have included themes such as "Bento Boxes and Sake Vessels Exhibition," "Stationery Exhibition," "Folding Fan Exhibition," and "Sheet Music Cover Exhibition."

The Niigata Prefectural Science Museum is an interactive, hands-on science museum where visitors can learn about various scientific topics through play and exploration. The exhibition areas include "Science of Nature," "Science in Our Lives," "The Exploring Room," and "History of Technology in Niigata." It also features an outdoor exhibition area and a planetarium.

The Foundation of Picture-Book Museum is located in Okaya city in Nagano prefecture. Picture book illustrator, Wakiko Sato is the President of our museum. We exhibit various original pictures and paintings,mainly of picture books, of domestic and foreign. Inside our museum, we have Picture Book Library where you can comfortably read and see wide range of Picture Books.

UESHIMA MUSEUM is located on the grounds of Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen, the alma mater of UESHIMA COLLECTION owner Kankuro Ueshima. It is highly regarded for its emphasis on international perspective and high ethical standards in education under the fundamental goal of "Seek and Think for Oneself." (“Jicho-Jiko”) The museum’s building, named “Ueshima Tower, Shibuya Kyoiku Gakuen”, was renovated from the former British School in Tokyo, which was established in 1988 and held its opening ceremony in September of the following year in the presence of the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The British School in Tokyo was utilized until August 2023 and was reopened as UESHIMA MUSEUM after renovation.
