The Museum of Art, Kochi

Since its opening on November 3, 1993, the Museum of Art, Kochi has been showcasing the activities of modern and contemporary artists, as well as locally-rooted creators, in a number of collection exhibitions and genre-crossing special exhibitions introducing artists from Japan and abroad. Permanent displays include rotating lineups of items from collections of works by Marc Chagall.

Another one of the museum's collections is dedicated to Ishimoto Yasuhiro, a famous photographer connected closely to Kochi. Founded on our comprehensive collection of Ishimoto's prints, films and related materials, the Ishimoto Yasuhiro Photo Center was established in June 2013.

The Museum Hall is equipped with both a Noh stage and conventional stage, and serves as a venue for international dance, theater, music, interdisciplinary performances, movie screenings and traditional performing arts, as well as lectures, courses and workshops aimed to familiarize visitors with art and culture.
