Yukiko Yamasaki
Following the success of the solo exhibition "Here is a Bug" held in 2023, this will be Yukiko Yamasaki's third new exhibition in a year.

Born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1988, Yukiko Yamasaki studied design under the illustrator and designer Hiro Sugiyama during her student days, and she now operates from Tokyo. Yamasaki has been actively presenting her works in various group exhibitions and solo exhibitions domestically. She also expands her activities across various genres, providing artwork to companies, brands, and magazines, producing her zine, and designing merchandise.

Yamasaki grew up in the 1980s, a time of significant evolution in digital and analog technologies. She has experienced firsthand the changes in information gathering due to various digital gadgets, from flip phones to smartphones and from low-spec PCs to MacBooks. Her process of collecting materials for her artwork has evolved from traditional paper media such as magazines and flyers to collecting images online. She scraps materials that catch her eye from the vast number of images flowing through the internet daily and reconstructs them digitally using iPhone or Photoshop, before finally translating them onto canvas through painting. This process serves as a testament to her status as a witness to the digital generation and her unique language within contemporary art.

Yamasaki's works are characterized by graphical motifs, vibrant colors, powerful line work, and bold compositions full of dynamism. While incorporating trends of the times such as manga, animation, fashion, and music in a pop style, she showcases her exceptional sense and witty expression, meticulously depicting every detail. Observing these motifs, one can almost glimpse her perspective and daily life. Even seemingly mismatched motifs and drawings are harmoniously arranged as one image, resonating cleverly within the frame, presenting a new perspective on contemporary painting.

Yamasaki's work skillfully manipulates digital media and analog techniques, evolving into various forms alongside changes in information and gadgets, transcending her personal preferences to record and positively enjoy various news, trends, and changes in the era.

In this exhibition, approximately ten new paintings will be unveiled. Combining vivid colors and bold abstract forms freely, Yamasaki's works seamlessly navigate between abstraction and figuration, weaving her unique narratives within visual harmony and contrast. Her artwork awakens our inner sensibilities, offering a free interpretation of color and form while stimulating fresh perspectives.

By presenting a new visual language that combines the dynamism of the digital age with the tactile sensation of analog, her works provide deep insights into the daily lives of people in the digital age and how information shapes our perceptions. They guide viewers into her creative universe, expanding their thoughts towards the infinite possibilities beyond the screen.
