Yang02 has previously focused on (post-)capitalism, energy issues, degrowth, and the political and social impact of advanced technology. Their works have offered a new approach to examining the future, which is often thought of from a progressive perspective, by considering it more diversely and from a broader perspective.
This exhibition, their last exhibition in Japan before moving to the United States, will update the works presented since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and develop them around a single theme. In their 2018 piece "Modern Viewer," a self-driving Segway behaved like a viewer, but this time it will be replaced by an electric wheelchair, guiding visitors through non-accessible spaces. Additionally, their work "Device for 'Graffiti,'" which reflects Yan Two's background in graffiti, will adopt the title "I Hate Fast Fashion" from a message by Agnès B., drawn using discarded clothing as the support base. The exhibition will consist of six groups of works, shedding light on alternative values and possibilities often overlooked in daily life, with humor, as Yan Two explores new understandings of technology.
