Artists

Toyoshige Watanabe
Toyoshige Watanabe (1931–2023), a prominent contemporary artist known for rich colors and humor, passed away last year at 91. Watanabe moved to Kunase, Tochigi, at 74, where the style evolved to reflect the joy of life in nature. Influenced by societal distortions, Watanabe created headless black "demons," and after witnessing the Great East Japan Earthquake, depicted the tsunami in the series "moving time." This exhibition showcases Watanabe's Kunase works, reflecting experiences and artistic expressions as a tribute to the artist.
