Toshiki Nakanishi
Photographer Toshiki Nakanishi delves into the culture of the Okhotsk people through natural landscape photography in northern Hokkaido. The Okhotsk people, a little-known maritime hunting and fishing ethnic group, inhabited the coastal areas of northern Hokkaido from the 5th to the 9th century, with similar cultures found in the Southern Kurils and Sakhalin. Engaging in hunting, sea travel, and trade, the Okhotsk people have vanished from history, but recent research reveals common DNA with the Ainu people. Nakanishi aims to visually capture the remnants of this ancient culture.
