Artists

Shoko Maemoto
Shoko Maemoto played a significant role in the New Wave movement in the 1980s and gained attention by participating in the 1989 touring exhibition "Against Nature: Japanese Art in the Eighties," which introduced contemporary Japanese art throughout the United States. Her installations featuring brightly colored dresses adorned with sequins, beads, and seashells, as well as relief works, are representative of her style.

This exhibit will feature her new work"Dragon Princess's Water Droplet," imbued with prayers to protect precious things from conflicts around the world, extending from Ukraine and the Middle East to Asia. Additionally, on display is a large relief piece titled "I Protect My Children," created approximately 20 years ago in 1998, depicting hands holding back impending disasters.
