In Uchino's paintings, there are a gaze and a hole. The gaze emanating from the paintings reaches us on this side of the room and flits between us. The “holes” in the paintings, such as eyes and gaps, that create the line of sight also expand the imaginary space to the opposite direction, behind the paintings. It reminds us of the existence of a curtain between the stage and the audience.
In Takeuchi's paintings, when she depicts the relationship between objects, the singular space that surrounds them appears like a membrane. This space dominates the painting in a closed manner, but brings into relief events, forces, and flows that are shared only within that space.
