Artists

Naoto Mitsuhashi
This solo exhibition showcases photographic artworks capturing the mystical natural landscapes of Mount Odaigahara in the southern Nara region of Oku-Yoshino, where the artist was captivated and eventually moved from Osaka to the mountainous village of Kamikitayama. Since 2020, the artist has been photographing the seasonal landscapes he encounters each week, including special scenes unseen by anyone else, along with portraying the concept of "Kannabi," which suggests that gods reside within Japan's ancient natural settings.

In addition to the strong focus on subjects and themes in the exhibition, significant attention is given to aspects related to the display such as framing, art paper, and presentation methods. The frames for the artworks are crafted in the forestry village of Kamikitayama at the foot of Mount Odaigahara, where the artist resides, using photographs of the village, and local wood, and crafted by village artisans. The photographic prints are displayed using large-format art paper (A1 Nobi size, 914mm × 610mm) from Hahnemühle, a leading German fine art paper manufacturer, with acrylic panels used on both the front and back of the frames to create a floating effect for the photographic artworks.
