Ken Domon
Ken Domon has left behind an indelible mark on the history of Japanese photography through documentaries, portraits, antiques, architecture, and landscapes. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the publication of the first volume of his life's work, "Pilgrimage of Old Temples," in 1963. Domon traveled to Buddhist temples and statues since before World War II. He maintained a unique style of capturing architectural details and close-ups of the hands, feet, and mouths of Buddhist statues. While publishing “Pilgrimage of Old Temples," Domon suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and became confined to a wheelchair for the remainder of his life.

This exhibition features approximately 120 of his color photographs and black-and-white photographs of Buddhist statues, including the seated Buddha of Muroji Temple, which fascinated Domon, and other heavy wooden carvings from the early Heian period.
