The exhibition of the "Planet Fukushima" series marks the fifth installment, following previous displays at Sendai Mediatheque (2012), Nikon Salon (42nd Ina Nobuo Award, 2017), Sony Imaging Gallery Ginza (2021), and Kanzan Gallery (June 2023).

Born in Date City, Fukushima Prefecture, Jun Kanno has been capturing the people and landscapes of his hometown in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake for over 12 years. Since 3.11, Kanno believes that Fukushima has been marked by an uncertain flow of time and complex spaces.

In March of this year, Kanno published the photo book "Planet Fukushima" (Seigensha). The book comprises two parts: "Fat Fish," featuring close-ups of people and scenes, and "Little Fish," snapshots taken at the same locations while holding a dosimeter. "Fat Fish" prominently features aerial shots of the temporary storage site for radioactive materials (Iitate Village). The name "Fat Fish" is derived from this storage site, which Kanno describes as having a scale-like appearance from above, resembling fish scales. The flexible container bags, filled with decontaminated soil and plant material, are arranged in a scale-like pattern, creating a visual similarity to fish scales.

This exhibition showcases around 40 to 50 works observing the actual temporary storage site, "Fat Fish." Additionally, photographs of dosimeters from the "Little Fish" section will be on display.

The new project, "Plume," follows the path of radioactive clouds released during the nuclear accident. From this series, Kanno has periodically photographed temporary storage sites for radioactive substances dispersed to the northwest (where the clouds drifted). The exhibition will feature selected works from various locations connected to a specific place.

In this exhibition, titled "Fat Fish Observations Report (Planet Fukushima 5)," the focus will be on the pure documentary aspect across the diverse works of the "Planet Fukushima" series.
