Jizo and Hell

Itsuo Art Museum
Finished
In commemoration of the designation of the "Jizo Ten Kings Statues" (colored silk on paper, 13th century) held by the Itsuo Museum as a nationally important cultural property, we will display the same work and explain the charm of the work by enlarging the detailed patterns. Additionally, we will introduce artworks and materials depicting the beloved "Jizo-san," who has gained faith by broadly relieving the common people by touring the six realms of heaven, human, asura, beast, hungry ghosts, and hell, as well as the terrifying "hell," which can be said to represent the six realms. This exhibition hopes to demonstrate how "Jizo and Hell" have been supported by various interests, engraved in the hearts of people as representations in everyday culture, and beloved.
