Artists

Hotsuma Katori
Hotsuma Katori, a pivotal figure in modern craft history, is celebrated for his fusion of traditional techniques and contemporary styles. Katori was awarded the Cultural Medal in 1953 and played a crucial role in establishing a decorative arts division at the Imperial Exhibition. Katori also conducted extensive research on Japanese metalworking and maintained strong connections to Matsumoto, frequently visiting the city during and after WWII. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Katori's birth and the 70th anniversary of death, a collection of works will be exhibited in Matsumoto.
