Hajime Imamura: The Whereabouts of the Late

Contemporary Art Gallery, Art Tower Mito
Finished

Artists

Hajime Imamura
Hajime Imamura is widely known for his style of humorous sculptures that evoke a profound world that is inextricably linked to everyday life by adding small gaps to ordinary, unremarkable objects, or by turning them inside out or upside down, thereby turning their light, transparent images upside down.

Imamura has created floating "sculptures" using lightweight materials such as cardboard, Styrofoam, plaster, wire, and vinyl, which are not typical of sculpture. Imamura's contemplation of fungi, which are invisible to humans but certainly coexist with and support the world, has expanded beyond the individual to the continuous workings of life.

This exhibition will be the first solo museum exhibition in 10 years for contemporary artist Imamura, who began his career in Kyoto in the early 1980s and has attracted attention from early on for his unique philosophical style, which does not lean toward any one way of thinking.
