Genso Okuda + Sayume Okuda Exhibition

Ichinomiya City Memorial Art Museum of Setsuko Migishi
Finished

Artists

Genso Okuda, Sayume Okuda
The Okuda Genso Sayume Art Museum, located in Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is named after the unprecedented couple in Japan, the painter Genso Okuda (1912-2003) and the doll artist Sayume Okuda (1936- ). They were the first married couple in Japan to individually receive the Order of Culture medals. For many years, they cherished the dream of creating "two art museums" to ensure their works were carefully preserved and not scattered. Their artworks were collectively donated to their hometown of Mihara City, culminating in the establishment of the Genso Okuda and Sayume Art Museum.

This exhibition, with full cooperation from the Genso Okuda and Sayume Art Museum, showcases their collection. It introduces the creative paths of the two artists who lived in different artistic worlds yet walked through life together, focusing on Japanese painting and dolls.
